It’s not really the mail app. that’s the problem but the mail service ..
The Web mail services eg. Yahoo mail and their ‘SpamGuard’ takes care of 90%+ of all spam (I believe Gmail has something similar = log-on and look in your ‘settings’)
Most POP3 email services have some sort of server side spam ‘blocking’ or ‘filtering’ service, although some do charge extra
There are filters available for Outlook (see link) however I’ve no idea how ‘good’ they are since I never use MS s/w if I can help it ..
